The “Big Apple” is one of the cities that you have to visit in your lifetime. Filled with amazing architecture and skyscrapers, your jaw will drop as soon as you get off the subway, or out of the taxi, from the airport. A long weekend to a week is the recommended duration of a holiday in this city, as there is certainly so much to see and to experience. A great way to start your stay here is to catch the subway to “Central Park”, where you can go on lovely walks and have a spot of lunch next to the lake. If you go on a day where the sky is a clear blue, the skyline reflects on the water – making this a great picture opportunity!
Near “Central Park”, is the “American Museum of Natural History”, which is a great place to go if you fancy reading up about Dinosaurs or the Solar System. Admission is reasonably priced, however if you get a “New York City Pass” – costing only $89 – entitles you to admission here. Other attractions valid with this pass include the “Empire State Building”, the “Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island”, “MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art)” and many more! If you decide to visit the “Empire State Building”, make sure you go just before sunset – so you can witness the view before and after sunset. This is very romantic, so if you are going with a partner remember to bring a camera.
A visit to the Statue of Liberty is also on the “must do” list whilst in NYC. Take the subway to the bottom of Manhattan, and walk to the pier where you can hop onto a ship that will take you to the statue and Ellis Island. A good plan is to bring some lunch with you, as food on the boat is extremely expensive. Also it is nice to sit on the island of the “Statue of Liberty” and look at the skyline from a different perspective.
Finding somewhere to stay in NYC can be problematic, especially if you want to book at last minute. Late rooms in NYC can be hard to come by, however if you do plenty of research before your stay, you should find somewhere in time! It is better to be on Manhattan Island and not on Brooklyn, as although the subway network is good, it takes at least 40 minutes to get from Brooklyn to “Central Station” in Manhattan.
